COMPLIMENTARY
SUPPLIES
There is no extra
charge for blood collection supplies
and Lab Submission
forms.
SPECIMEN
REQUIREMENTS
- Most tests
require 2-4 thick, unstained blood smears. Submit 4 blood smears
for anemic patients.
- Most samples
require whole blood.
-DO NOT SEND SERUM FOR PCR OR
RT-PCR! -Fluid is preferred for FIP RT-PCR. -Nasal and/or
ocular swabs are preferred for Feline herpes.
- Be sure to label
all tubes and forms carefully with the patient's name, clinic's
name, and date sample was collected.
- Be sure that you
provide a brief patient history!
- Place the sample
and Lab Submission form in a specimen bag or a zip loc
bag.
- Place the samples in a
small box, cylinder mailer or padded envelope. Ship to the address
below via an overnight service (such as Fed-Ex). PLEASE
WAIVE THE SIGNATURE REQUIREMENT!
PARASITE
REQUIREMENTS
- Submit samples
in a Red Top Tube. DO NOT use serum separator tubes.
- Fill the tube
about 1/3 to 1/2 full of 2% formalin. DO NOT use 10% formalin
since it will distort fragile cysts and ova. (You may dilute the
10% formalin by making 4 parts distilled water to 1 part 10%
formalin. A special preservative is available upon request.
(Protofix) .
- Place enough
feces in the tube so there is a total volume of approximately 75%
full. Do not fill completely full. Full tubes often "blow" the cap
and leak in transit!
- Tape around the
cap. Note that empty syringe sheaths are an excellent protector.
Place the tube in the sheath and tape around the sheath cap.
- Be sure that you
provide a brief history!
- Place the sample
and Lab Submission form in a specimen bag or a zip loc bag.
- Place the samples in a
small box, cylinder mailer or padded envelope. Mail to the address
below. If you are sending via an overnight service (such as
Fed-Ex) please waive the signature!
